General workshop info

Molecular biology has undergone a revolution, with advances in molecular cloning, synthetic biology, and genome engineering allowing researchers to perform experiments that were only dreamed of a few years ago.  This workshop will provide an overview of recent advances in molecular cloning technologies, with a particular focus on recombination-based cloning and CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering.

The practical component of the workshop will focus on genome editing of a MEF cell line expressing GFP, and introduce participants to the use of electroporation of RNA-protein complexes (RNPs), gRNA design principles and identification of edited clones, and SLIC/Golden Gate design principles. 

The practical work will be accompanied by lectures on SLIC, Gibson, and Golden Gate cloning technologies, CRISPR/Cas9 in mammalian systems and plants, multi-gene cloning and its appl ications, and in vivo applications of CRISPR/Cas9.
